UN-LIMITED SIGN MAX HALL FOR 2025 BTCC CAMPAIGN

  • Un-Limited Motorsport sign Max Hall for 2025 season
  • 17-year-old racer steps up from JCW Mini Challenge
  • Team confirms plan for second car to be revealed soon

Un-Limited Motorsport have made 17-year-old racer Max Hall their first driver signing for 2025. The JCW Mini Challenge Rookie of the Year for 2024 makes the step up to the BTCC after finishing second overall in the main JCW championship, where he rounded out the season with five overall wins.

Last term was a strong foundation year for Un-Limited. The season began with the squad putting the finishing touches to their Cupra Leon in the minutes leading up to the opening session at Donington Park, but ended with top 10 finishes – and being entrusted with a BTCC development programme to sign off on the sustainable fuel to be introduced across the board for the upcoming campaign.

Hall’s pedigree has become obvious over the last few seasons since making the move up from karts to cars. A tough debut season in the Ginetta Junior series in 2021 saw him develop his skills in the middle of the pack, but a switch to the Junior Saloon Car Championship and Front Wheel Drive racing in 2022 set him on a new path.

A total of 10 wins in the JSCC on his way to the title was followed by a strong campaign in the Mini Challenge Trophy in 2023, where he stood atop the top of the podium twice. A move to the crack Excelr8 team for this year saw him bag a pair of impressive wins early in the JCW Mini Challenge season on the Brands Indy layout. In particular, an under pressure lights to flag defence from triple Mini Challenge champion and BTCC racer Dan Zelos to finish his weekend was a performance of note.

More wins at Snetterton, Croft and Brands Hatch – on the GP layout – ensured that Hall picked up the kind of experience needed to make the jump up to the BTCC. “Joining Un-Limited Motorsport at this stage of my career is an incredible opportunity,” Hall stated about the next step in his racing career. “While I know we have work to do as a team, I’m excited about the challenge and ready to give it everything I’ve got. Competing in the BTCC has always been a dream, and I’m confident we can make great progress together. This is a big step for me, and I can’t wait to get started.”

“Competing as one of the youngest drivers in the BTCC is both surreal and an incredible honour,” he added. “Especially in a series known for its experienced competitors. It’s an opportunity to prove that age doesn’t define ability and that a fresh, hungry perspective can add something unique to the championship.”

“My primary focus is to maximise every opportunity to learn and grow as a driver. I aim to refine my racecraft, build momentum, and consistently deliver strong performances, contributing to the team’s progress while narrowing the gap to the front-runners. Achieving regular top-10 finishes and competing for podiums are key goals, but it’s also about gaining valuable experience and helping the team and car reach their full potential.”

Team owner Bobby Sharpless heaped praise on his new driver. “Max is exactly the kind of driver we were looking for to join Un-Limited Motorsport. He’s demonstrated incredible skill and determination throughout his career, and we’re confident he’ll thrive in the BTCC environment. This is a pivotal moment for both the team and Max, and we’re excited to see what we can accomplish together.”

Un-Limited ran as a single car entry in 2024, but as Touring Car Magazine reported first in the middle of the year, Sharpless had verified that the team had acquired a second Cupra Leon chassis. Team Manager Dave Tyson confirmed last month that the car is ready to be built up, with Sharpless stating that the move to double up would be “another major milestone for us.”

The confirmation of the plans for the second car, which has been subject to many rumours during the winter ‘silly season’ for the BTCC, is due to be confirmed soon.
