TCR UK has had its 100th race. Heading into its eighth season the championship has been pronounced DOA by outsiders on a couple of occasions, but with the promotional team led by Stewart Lines it has kept on getting back up and throwing punches that connect. On-track much of the racing has been of a decent level too, and over those eight years it has seen some notable names come and go.
BTCC race winners reviving their careers, a BTCC champion getting some seat time, TCR specialists enjoying their wares in the series and youngsters launching what will be successful journeys into motor racing. 32 drivers have won TCR UK races, but who are they, and what else have they achieved? We run through them all below.

1. Dan Lloyd

No introduction needed here. Lloyd – the inaugural TCR UK champion won the first six races in championship history, adding another two on the way to the title – it’s still the most successful single season tally in the championship. Lloyd also managed to grab his first BTCC win in the same year. Wins in other TCR championships would follow, along with further BTCC success.
2. Ollie Taylor

With Clio Cup team Pyro Motorsport former BMW racer Ollie Taylor was the foil in the championship in that first season for Dan Lloyd. Taylor took two wins, and with a slew of podiums the Honda Civic racer made sure the title went down to the last round. He came back for the opening round of 2018, where he scored a third win.
3. Andreas Bäckman

Racing a Golf GTi as teammate to Dan Lloyd and sister Jessica, Andreas took a win in the first TCR UK season at Croft, but it was in a borrowed FK2 Civic while his usual steed was being prepped for a different series. He would go on to win TCR races in Spain, Europe and Scandinavia before switching to GT machinery.
4. Ash Sutton

Yes, that Ash Sutton. At the time Sutton was defending his first BTCC title when he stepped into a Pyro run Civic FK8 at Oulton Park – where he won both races that he entered. Sutton didn’t just try out TCR UK at the time. A 2018 foray into Europe netted a podium in Spain, which he followed up with a trip to Spa in 2019. He’s had a bit of success in the BTCC since then….
5. Josh Price

Like Andreas Bäckman, Josh Price also took his sole TCR UK win in an FK2 Civic. The BTCC racer was enduring a tough season in a Subaru Levorg estate while dovetailing a partial TCR UK campaign. His win came in the season closer in very poor conditions.
6. Carl Swift

A partial 2018 season for Swift saw the ex-Civic Cup racer grab a podium in a DSG Cupra Swift, after the series had opened up a DSG trophy class when he pointed out that he’d be at a disadvantage to his competitors. Like Ollie Taylor he came back for the opening round in 2019, and won a race before ditching TCR UK. Over the last couple of seasons he’s popped up in the TCR UK supporting Audi TT Cup.
7. Max Coates

Like Ash Sutton, Max Coates has a 100% win record. Racing a Cupra DSG machine that he shared in endurance racing with Guy Colclough, the Yorkshire racer appeared at the 2019 Donington round that supported British GT, and won two races. By his own admission they should have been wins for Lewis Kent, but for car failures. Coates has since won races in TOCA supporting Clio, Mini and Porsche Sprint competition.
8. Lewis Kent

While he may have lost out to Coates twice at Donington, Lewis Kent doubled up at Croft the next very time out. The i30 racer entered TCR UK in the first season and would go on to win the TCR UK crown as part of the Touring Car Trophy in both 2020 and 2021, and across five seasons would win eight TCR UK races. He returned to the TCR UK family after a year out in the supporting Civic Cup in 2024.
9. Henry Neal*

The only driver to win in a car that is not a TCR machine, meaning there is an asterisk next to his name. After TCR UK almost collapsed at the end of 2018 the merging with the Touring Car Trophy saw ex-BTCC machines run alongside TCR cars, and Neal – son of multiple BTCC champ Matt – won six races and the overall TCT title twice in his two seasons in the championship. The plan was for Henry to use the experience to prep for a partial BTCC campaign in 2022, which was curtailed by Honda ditching BTCC support.
10. James Turkington

The 2019 TCR UK champion stated the year off in a Supercopa machine before switching to a Cupra Leon run by BTCC stalwarts Ciceley Motorsport. The Turkington v Neal battle had shifted to the Touring Car Trophy with James and Henry both taking a title each that year, with James taking his first win at Brands Hatch, before stepping away from participating in motor racing, although he did remain a regular in attending BTCC races to watch older brother Colin.
11. Adam Morgan

After the end of the 2019 BTCC season where he’d gone winless, and had his lowest points finish in six years Adam Morgan joined the TCR UK field for the final round of the season to support championship contender and teammate James Turkington. His first and second places (both first in the TCR UK category) were enough to place him fifth overall in the TCR UK class behind Nick Halstead.
12. Max Hart

The Irish racer entered the Touring Car Trophy in the pandemic year of 2020. After a season long battle between (in reality reduced to three rounds) Lewis Kent and Henry Neal where the pair took turns on the top step, Hart showed pace, and took his debut win at the end of the year with a sterling drive to take first on the rostrum. His second TCR UK term started with dominance, but faded with one problem after another, which in a two-win 2022 season would also hit his title charge hard. Since then Hart has gone on to race in TCR Asia with a highlight being a win in TCR in Macau.
13. Darelle Wilson

The TCR UK stalwart. Darelle, along with Dad Les has been involved in TCR UK since its launch as driver, mechanic and team boss. He laned in the series in 2018 with his now famous Green Vauxhall Astra. The Vauxhall was never a match for the VW, Hyundai and Seat/Cupra cars that dominated TCR UK early on, and it was like racing with one hand behind his back, but he did take a win at Castle Combe after race winner Max Hart was disqualified.
14. Bradley Kent

Brother of double champ Lewis, he was under pressure from the off, with the two-time champ extolling the virtues of speed that his sibling carried. Brad showed that he had speed in droves, and it didn’t take long to break his duck. Four races into his first season and he was on top of the podium, with another two victories to come across the year before a 2022 season racked with unreliability.
15. Dan Kirby

Dan was the epitome of passion in TCR UK. Having been involved in the BTCC on the sponsorship side, and having helped a number of up-and-coming drivers along the way, Kirby stepped into the championship in 2020 and immediately took pole position, but it was 2021 where he shone. A win at Brands Hatch was the highlight of a season that saw him finish third overall in the title fight. Dan came back to TCR UK for 2023, but unfortunately passed away during the season. He is still much missed.
16. Jac Constable

After qualifying for a BTCC round and failing to start for medical reasons Constable joined TCR UK in 2021 with the team he was supposed to race in the BTCC with – PMR. He showed true BTCC ability with his physical elbows out racing, taking his first win at Oulton Park that season, and a second during the six-way title showdown. He remained a front runner in the following years where he took another four wins/
17. Bruce Winfield

A driver with a turn of speed that could come from anywhere at any given time, Winfield took two wins on his way to second in the table in his first season. His Anglesey win launched him into title contention and placed him as a front runner in 2022 with another win. His 2023 season in a Hyundai i30 brought another two wins.
18. Alex Morgan

A non-points win for Morgan came at Donington in 2021. After stints with wins in Clio racing and the Seat Leon Eurocup Morgan went on to win in TCR Europe. Sporadic appearances in TCR UK after racing TCR in Germany had him show his pace – and bring the rare Renault TCR machine to the UK, but he took his win in a Power Maxed Cupra towards the end a year where he’d already scored podiums in a one-off, which has always left a question about what he could have been achieved by him?
19. Chris Smiley

After a win in the BTCC in 2018 Smiley hadn’t quite managed to step up to the top step of the championship table. He seemed to be that quintessential right car, wrong time driver. A last-minute decision to race TCR UK in 2022 with a Honda saw him win first time out in 2022 – but then it became a slugfest of a season as he fought his way to the championship title. A second TCR season followed without success before he returned to the BTCC in 2024.
20. Jess Hawkins

Race winner number 20 was a historic one as Jess Hawkins became the first female TCR UK winner in front of a huge British GT crowd at Oulton Park in 2022. Since her TCR UK triumph Hawkins has moved to sportscar racing and as an ambassador of Aston Martin F1 had the chance to test one of their F1 cars.
21. Alex Ley

Second time out. That was when then 17-year-old Ley took his debut TCR UK race win in 2022 at Brands Hatch. It wasn’t some kind of odd afternoon, his second topping of the podium came the very next time out, and he added a third in that first year. In 2023 Ley became a genuine title contender, taking another three race wins on his way to second overall. That result was enough for Hyundai to place him with the prestigious Target Competition team in TCR Italy, where he won first time out in 2024.
22. Jamie Tonks

A keen lover of the Nürburgring, Tonks stepped up from the Civic Cup to TCR UK for 2022 with an Area Motorsport run Cupra Leon, and once settled in grabbed some decent points finishing positions. His only win came at Oulton Park holding off Bruce Winfield and Issac Smith, and was expected to be the first of many. A return was planned with a Hyundai Elantra for 2023, but a sponsor ditching out at the last minute halted any chance of adding to the total.
23. Adam Shepherd

There should be a TCR UK title next to Shepherd’s name, and the all-time TCR UK win record – but this guy has had all the bad luck. From a puncture denying him his first win, to a broken back, to a series of fuel problems robbing him of up to six wins last term. Shepherd lost his first win at Castle Combe with a last corner puncture in 2022 but rectified that with a win at Donington. Another win in 2023 came, but 2024 gave him four wins before a series of maladies and some shite officiating stuffed his season. In 2025 there are two more wins already giving a running total of eight victories.
24. Lewis Brown

Former Ginetta and Mini race winner Lewis Brown appeared in the opening round of the 2023 TCR UK season, and won in his second race, before his team decided to ditch out on the UK scene, but Brown would continue to race in TCR taking a win in Spain later that year.
25. Jenson Brickley

From winning the Fiesta Junior championship Brickley went on to win the senior Fiesta series before moving into TCR UK for 2023 where the young racer took a win at Croft on his way to third in the championship. The success paved a way into Spain for 2024 in the local TCR series, with a TCR Europe campaign coming this year beside some further Spanish outings.
26. Carl Boardley

Former Oval and Ginetta racer Boardley jumped into the BTCC in 2019 for three years, but didn’t quite grab the success he wanted, so he plumped for TCR UK in 2023 to get back to actually enjoying the racing for the sake of it. After a slowish start Broadley took his first win (if you don’t include one stripped for track limits at Croft) at Oulton Park before going on to take the championship with four wins. In 2024 he repeated with four wins again to take a second TCR UK crown.
27. Alistair Camp

Civic Cup racer Camp took two tenth place finishes when he made his TCR UK debut as part of a Snetterton one-off in 2023. He came back for more and took a win at Donington after the two cars ahead of him were disqualified, but he’s come back after an appearance in 2024 to take on the full 2025 championship, with eyes on a win on the road.
28. Viktor Andersson

Lynk & Co specialist Andersson was called in for the opening round of the 2024 championship to put in the shop window the Swedish/Chinese manufacturers 03 TCR machine after racing in TCR Europe and in the TCR World Tour. On the pace immediately the Swede took a win first time out before returning to Europe.
29. Callum Newsham

No wins in the first two TCR UK seasons for Newsham, but the floodgates opened in 2024. An utterly dominant race three display at the opening Brands Hatch meeting was followed with two wins at Croft, another at Thruxton and a pair at Silverstone to place third in the championship – adding a seventh victory at Donington during the opening round in 2025.
30. Brad Hutchison

After dragging an older Audi around for a year-and-a-half, Hutchison switched to a Cupra Leon for a single meeting in 2023, and won first time out, until he was disqualified over a ride height issue. His first official win cam in 2024 at Snetterton and he added tw more at both the National and International Silverstone layouts on his way to second in the championship. This season saw him grab another win at Donington.
31. Steve Laidlaw

Joining TCR UK after the opening 2024 round Laidlaw – who raced a number of interesting cars before his step up to Tin Top racing – started off in a Hyundai i30 for two rounds grabbing a best of sixth before jumping into an ex-Luke Sargeant Cupra Leon which took him to a third and second, then a victory at Thruxton. He finished the year off in a Cupra VZ and looks to add more victories this year.
32 Sam Laidlaw

Jumping into the i30 vacated by Steve, Sam saw out most of the 2024 season learning his craft before closing out the year in a Cupra VZ. 2025 started with the car in Spain with Sam being competitive, but this year he kicked off with a set of decent points scoring performances before taking victory in TCR race 100, marked by a pretty wild slide.
