The black flag was the biggest talking point of second free practice for the opening BTCC round as TOCA stated to clamp down on track limits infringements. Ronan Pearson (twice) and Nic Hamilton repeated their transgressions from earlier in the day, with Pearson making it three from two sessions, but the surprising scalps were a trio of the Excelr8 Hyundai machines and a NAPA driver.
Despite setting the early running with a 1m07.429 laps, Tom Ingram was parked, with teammates Michael Crees and Adam Morgan for a period of time, reducing their preparation time for qualifying. Max Hall, not quite matching the times he set pre-season also fell victim to the stringent enforcement of the rules. Dan Cammish was hit just before the crucial end of session rush to attempt qualifying type runs.
The time Ingram set remained quickest for the session with Ash Sutton setting the second fastest lap with 20 minutes on the clock with a 1m07.789s time. Morgan and Chilton backed up Ingram by going third and fourth with Cammish classified fifth.
Jake Hill put in the sixth fastest lap in his WSR BMW with Charles Rainford joining him inside the top 10 with Daryl DeLeon in 16th. Aiden Moffat ran towards the back of the field – effectively a session behind after a throttle body problem prevented any running in first practice – leaving him with some catchup work in qualifying.
Mikey Doble again set an impressive time by placing the Astra in seventh with the returning Dan Lloyd grabbing eighth ahead of Rainford. Josh Cook placed 10th after a lightning quick engine change between sessions for the One Motorsport team.
