TCR UK: NEWSHAM RETURNS FOR 2026 TITLE CHARGE

Ten time TCR UK race winner Callum Newsham will return to action in the championship for the 2026 season with JH Racing.

Bringing the highly competitive Hyundai Elantra back to the series for the upcoming season immediately places him as a title favourite for his fifth year in TCR racing.

“I’m really excited to be coming back to TCR UK for 2026 with JH Racing,” Newsham stated.

“The last two seasons have been very strong for us — third in 2024 and Vice Champion in 2025 — but the target now is clear. I want to be on the top step. The Hyundai Elantra was a big step forward for us last year, and continuing with JH Racing gives me total confidence that we’ve got everything we need to fight for the championship. I’m more motivated than ever and can’t wait to get back on the grid.”

Newsham mounted the podium on his debut weekend at Oulton Park in 2022 while racing a Cupra Leon with Power Maxed before shifting to JH Racing and a Hyundai i30 N for 2023, where he placed in the top 10 at the end of the year ahead of defending champion Chris Smiley.

Over the last two seasons Newsham and JH Racing have remained competitive with the ageing i30, ensuring that they were in with a shout at the 2024 championship finale after picking up six wins across the year. Lest term Newsham pulled off some magnificent victories as he battled against a range of Gen 3 machines to keep his foot in the title battle. A change to the Elantra for the last two rounds kept him in the hunt for the crown (despite being shunted off at Snetterton) to the last race. Despite losing out to Adam Shepherd, Newsham proved to be the only driver on the grid who could keep him honest across all 17 races.

JH Racing team owner James Horne said: “Continuing into our fourth season with Callum gives all of us at JH Racing a great sense of pride. We have been devastatingly close to winning the championship twice now with the i30 N. Now our switch to Hyundai Motorsport’s latest machinery – the Elantra N EVO – and having already secured the model’s first-ever race win on UK soil with Callum, combined with a full revamp behind the scenes over the winter, puts us in our best starting position yet ahead of the 2026 season. It’s been a very long winter and we’re all itching to get going.”

Although Newsham was on the pace straight away with the Elantra, he admitted that he found the car to be ‘twitchy’ and ‘on the nose’ over the two final rounds of 2025. With some testing and development to bring the car even closer to his preferred behaviour going into the upcoming campaign, he will prove to be a tough driver to top.

Championship Manager Jack Finlan added: “It’s great to see Callum returning to TCR UK for 2026. His progression from third in 2024 to Vice Champion in 2025 shows his determination and quality as a driver. Having competitors of Callum’s calibre targeting the title is exactly what makes TCR UK such a strong championship, and we’re really looking forward to seeing him back on the grid.”
