The BTCC grid is beginning to take its final shape for 2026, and Restart Racing has made a significant statement of intent. The reigning Independent Teams’ champions have officially confirmed that James Dorlin will join their ranks, taking over the seat of the Hyundai i30 vacated by race winner Dan Lloyd.
The transition marks a pivotal moment for the team as they look to defend their independent titles. At 26, Dorlin is widely regarded as one of the championship’s most promising talents, having consistently punched above his weight during the 2025 season with Speedworks, proving he had pace in qualifying, and picking up a trio of top 10 finishes at a point in the year where the Corolla was hampered by the Toyota engine.
“I’m very grateful for the opportunity to join Restart Racing for the 2026 season, especially off the back of the success they had last year. After the disappointment of having to cut my season short in 2025, a lot of effort has gone into making sure I’m back on the grid and ready to fight properly this time around,” Dorlin commented.
“I think we’ve got a really competitive package at Restart and a great group of people behind the team, so I’m looking forward to getting in the car at Croft and seeing what we can do. Thanks to Pete, Chris and everyone involved in making this possible.”
The synergy between Dorlin’s pace and Restart Racing’s engineering could prove to be a potent combination. The team will continue to field two Hyundai i30 Fastback N machines powered by Swindon engines, a setup that dominated the independent standings last year. Fans won’t have to wait long to see the new partnership in action, as Dorlin is scheduled to make his official debut during the pre-season test at Croft on March 24/25.
Pete Jones, Team Principal of Restart Racing, believes Dorlin is the right person to maintain the team’s momentum. “James showed last year that he has real pace in the BTCC. Now he has the car and the team around him to show what he can do. Dan did a fantastic job for us last season, and now we’re excited to give James the opportunity to build on that. We’re really pleased to have him join the team, and I’m looking forward to seeing him out in the car at Croft.”
