George Jaxon will switch to a Gen 2 Audi RS3 for this weekend in TCR UK at Donington Park, meaning that the marque will have three of the newer generation machines representing the German company on-track.
Jaxon, who raced a Gen 1 VW Golf in the opening round, will compete with Vannin Motorsport alongside Luke Sargeant, with the latter officially announcing his return to the series yesterday.
The car that Jaxon will race this weekend is an ex-Volcano Motorsport machine. Former WTCC champion Macau legend Rob Huff campaigned the Audi at the circuit at the end of last season.
Vannin Motorsport, with DW Racing, will receive support from Audi Customer Racing, with the man responsible for the Audi TCR machine – Detlef Schmidt – onsite for this weekend.
“I loved making my return to TCR UK and enjoyed driving the Golf, however, as a driver, I want more and I want to be upfront. So I’ve made the switch to the Audi as I commit to the rest of the 2025 season in the championship and put my GT plans on hold,” Jaxon explained.
“Making the move to the newer Audi gives me the opportunity to learn more about driving a Gen 2 car and see how I can improve as a driver. Receiving support from Audi Sport Customer Racing is also a big boost, giving me all the tools I need to hit the ground running.”
Jaxon made his TCR UK debut in the 2022 season finale and followed up with a couple of appearances in 2023. For 2024 he switched to the TOCA/BTCC support Porsche Sprint Series with an eye on GT racing, and initially planned to race in TCR UK and GT cup this season, but with the opportunity to race this Gen 2 machine, he has put his eggs in this basket at a time when TCR UK is once again ‘on the up.’
TCR UK promoter Stewart Lines is pleased to see another Gen 2 machine join the championship. “It’s great to see George commit to the full season in TCR UK, as he makes the switch to a Gen 2 Audi,” he said. “We’ve already seen drivers make the move into newer TCR cars and already enjoy the benefits. Manufacturer support of the TCR concept has been key over the years, helping customer racing teams achieve success around the world, so it’s good to see Audi supporting their customers in TCR UK. I wish George all the best as he embarks on this new challenge.”
